Airport & Flights

Cheddi Jagan International Airport, located in Georgetown, is the only international airport in Guyana. There are regular flights from major cities in the United States, Canada, and other countries coming to Guyana.

From Canada & United States there are regular direct and indirect flights from different airlines including Delta reaching Georgetown from Toronto, New York, Atlanta, and Miami.

Currency & Banking

The Guyanese Dollar denoted by GYD or GY$ is the official currency used in Guyana; however, the US Dollar is also used very commonly.

Students coming to Guyana are not recommended to carry large sums of cash. Funds should be carried in the form of traveller’s cheque.

RGUST strongly recommends students to open a bank account in Guyana for which the university will provide assistance. There are many international banks in Guyana such as Scotia Bank, Republic Bank Ltd. etc. where students can open an account either in local currency or United States dollars.
